FM23 Feature Reveal – Data Hub Changes
One of the most eagerly awaited sports games of the year is Football Manager 2023 has been announced to be released on a variety of platforms on November 8th 2022. One of the most intricate and thorough football simulations ever created by Sports Interactive, and each new version of the game adds new elements. In this post, the changes to the data hub will be revealed.
The Data Hub was added to Football Manager for FM22 adding a panel that allows you to digest a wealth of statistical information about your team’s performance with a broad range of segmentation and visualization options.
Apart from proving to be a delightful step forward in aligning us as FM players with the modern realities of an ever-data-driven footballing world this tool can give you a huge advantage when it comes to squeezing the absolute most of your squad’s abilities and perfecting your tactics.
On FM23, the Data Hub is even better with a raft of new statistics and visuals to give you more information on the performances of your team and players, and where you stand in comparison to your rivals
The big statistical addition to FM22 was the introduction of Expected goals (xG), a revolutionary football metric, which allows you to evaluate team and player performance. Very simply, xG (or expected goals) is the probability that a shot will result in a goal based on the characteristics of that shot and the events leading up to it.
Expected Assists (xA)
FM23 adds another statistical analysis with Expected Assists (xA). Expected assists (xA) measures the likelihood that a given pass will become a goal assist. It considers several factors including the type of pass, pass end-point and length of pass. On FM23, xA will incorporated in multiple ways:
- Open play xA stat will be visible on player profiles
- Open play xA statistical data will be included in many of the scatter graphs and polygons already available in the Data Hub.
- Players will be able to request some xA-specific visuals
- open play xA vs actual assists
- open play xA vs non-penalty xG
- open play xA v Pass Success percentage
To ensure that available data on FM23 is close to what real-life coaches and analysts around the world new statistics have been added including:
- Open play key passes
- Open play crosses
All available statistics now have a 90 minutes metrics which will allow you to make better comparisions between players and teams that have played a different number of games.
To be able to see how hard your players are working during games you will be able to see see the number of pressure attempts, successful pressures and sprints a player has made.
The anaysis of Progressive Passes (defined as passes that move the ball significantly closer to the opposition goal) have been added to allow analysis of attacking passes. This data will be accompanied with data which compares the number of progressive passes completed by a player to their pass success percentage. Passing Dynamics will also be introduced in FM23 meaning that the existing performance polygons now have better detail.
Passes Per Defensive Action (PPDA)
Another new addition to the Data Hub will be the ability to view Passes Per Defensive Action (PPDA) which allow manager to better assess the effectiveness and intensity of their team’s pressing due to PPDA assessing tackle attempts, fouls and interceptions outside of the opposition’s first third.
Field Tilt
Field Tilt will give managers the ability to compare their own final third passess against the opponents final third passes
Finaly, for those that like to add as much data as possible to the Data Hub on FM23 you’ll be able to to that even quicker when compared to FM22. Those like liked to add all the available data will know that it took some time to add each item individually. On FM23, no more will you have to add each item one-by-one. In a couple of clicks you’ll be able to access an ‘All Visuals’ dropdown which shows off the full list of available items, with labels to show whether they’re Scatter Graphs or Polygons. You can tick or untick these visuals as you want.
To make things even easier, to get a more general overview of your side’s key performance metrics an optional setting will allow managers to mark certian items which will then ensure that the analyst take those data points into account when putting together the monthly reports.
