Corners in FM19: How to maximise your chances without needing tall players.

Scoring from set pieces has always been one of my club’s philosophies. Why not tick that box? It can give you extra credit and doesn’t come in the place of another philosophy. Surely, banging in loads of set pieces is doable if you spend a bit of time on your tactic?

It can be hard in some circumstances.

You might like to buy younger players. You might prefer more technical or creative players than meatheads who call themselves footballers. The simple answer might just be that these are all excuses and nothing is working for you.

I know you might feel like set pieces don’t need the attention in your save. Maybe, you’re winning enough games anyway. But you shouldn’t be going a few games without scoring any goals from set pieces and you shouldn’t be scared whenever the opposition has a set piece. Continue reading

Wide players in FM19: How to harness them in your ball-hogging side

Unai Emery.png

Like watching your wingers bomb up and down the touchline, getting crosses in? Or your full-back beguiling the entire opposition, manoeuvring his way into the box unmarked? Well stop reading right here.

We’re looking for passing and moving, people. No player can move without passing first.

That’s how I developed this spectacular tactical system.

FM19 Guide: How to defend with a high line

Pirates.png

It looks like you’ve got enough men back. The next thing you know, someone ends up ghosting behind your flabbergasted defence. Your first instinct is to blame your players, but the game’s animation often makes players look slower, or less alert, than they actually are.

Your next instinct might be to change your centre-backs; either in personnel or roles.

Nothing wrong with this at all. That said, without suitable protection, isolated centre-backs in a high line will always end up focusing primarily on the space behind them. To stop your enemies playing any football, the centre-backs must focus on keeping their positions! Continue reading

Dynamo Project FM19: Portrait of a Striker – Guide to Scoring More

I’m going to start by making a bold claim that Luka Jovic is the best offensive striker in the world right now. There is a lot of buzz around him lately with the likes of Barcelona, Chelsea and Man City linked with his name. This has as much to do with the undeniable scoring ability as the promise of future potential in this 20 year old from Serbia. His wonderkid status in Football Manager 2019 is greatly merited because simply put no other forward has the same combination of key attributes and potential (especially after the Winter Update). At the start of the game, there are a few better strikers with much bigger names but none have his youth or potential. Naturally when looking for a player to perfectly highlight the archetypal Striker, I turned to Luka. His example will allow me to showcase all the attributes needed by a forward to develop into a goal-machine. In general, if you are interested in getting more goals from your special player, this is the guide for you. Also, I will recreate Frankfurt’s brilliant 3-5-2 with Luca as its main scorer.

skysports-deadline-day-football_3879147.jpg

The January Window. 31 Days of to-ing and fro-ing in the football world. 31 days which can make or break a club’s season, and 31 days which have us all glued to our phones, waiting to see whether our own clubs will welcome any new faces.
