FM24 Release Date Announced!
Sports Interactive have just announced the release date for FM24 which will be November 6, 2023. We can only assume the beta period will begin two weeks prior on October 23. Fingers crossed! Let’s have a look at what’s been announced and the features roadmap found on the Football Manager Twitter. Follow Dictate the Game on Twitter for the latest updates!
Read more: FM24 Release Date Announced! The trailer doesn’t reveal a lot but we know that the graphic engine rebuild is still another year away. So I expect the UI and the Match Engine to be very similar to FM23. In FM24, I would think there will be more of a focus on improvements to functionality within the overall game and not so much the match engine itself, other than small improvements to the look and feel of the existing engine.
Features Roadmap
Looking at this graphic, there’s a lot we can speculate on. Let’s have a look into each area and see if we can make some predictions about the upcoming game.
Transfers/Squad Building – September 18
This is likely to be one of the main new features or improvements for the upcoming game. Could it be that the player valuations have been improved from FM23? We’ve seen players have wide-ranging values which may seem unrealistic at first glance. Maybe this is an area of improvement? Also I think the Squad Planner will be spoken about here when it’s revealed on September 18th for FM24. Intermediaries is an interesting change. These are essentially player agents, but maybe it’s a more modern name change and could it be a change in how they interact with us in the game? Also, offloading players, maybe there are more tools that can help us offload unwanted players. That would certainly help.
With the crazy transfer market we have just seen with Saudi Arabia signing a lot of superstars, I wonder if they will be powerhouses in the Football Manager world. Alternatively, will your star player be on the move there after a few good performances? It’s all very exciting and we can’t wait to see the changes come to life with the roadmap.
Interactions, Match Play, Set Pieces and Coaches – September 25
This section looks quite interesting. Now with player talks, maybe we can set targets for individual players and they will suggest targets that they would like to achieve as well? More logical conflict resolution with players would be great as well, I’ve seen players get overly upset when they aren’t getting game time despite their appropriate squad status. Hopefully this will be better in the new game.
The Set Pieces update I’m very much looking forward to seeing what they will be. A set piece designer has been a request in the community for years and my mouth is watering at the prospect in the new game. It would open up gamers to be creative with their set piece setup and instructions, so any more customization in these areas would make them very happy.
Coaches debut is intriguing. I don’t know exactly what that means because clearly there are already coaches in the game that we can have in our backroom staff. It must be an expansion of the role and more interaction with the manager that what we are currently seeing. What those are? Your guess is as good as mine.
Netflix Games and other updates
Another big announcement was the debut of Football Manager for FM24 in Netflix Games. If you open the Netflix app on mobile there are mobile games available to subscribers (Who knew!?!) I would assume this is a pivot away from Apple Arcade, or could it be an addition? We will see. Other quality of life and game play deep dive updates we can only speculate. I would love to see a revamp of International Management, but I would’ve assumed this would be a more specific item in the Features Roadmap for FM24. Maybe we have to wait for future versions before this is looked at.
