5 Teams You Should Manage With Winter Update | FM21

The official winter update by Sports Interactive is now out and it is the perfect opportunity to start a brand new journey in Football Manager 2021… whether you fancy staying in Britain, or making up for the lack of travel by jetting abroad in game, here are five teams you SHOULD manage in FM21 with the winter update.

Wrexham

This is probably the most obvious one on the list, with new Hollywood superstars owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, plenty of FM players will be rushing to play in North Wales.

The ownership is officially in FM21 for the first time after receiving approval on the 9th February 2021. The stars have reaffirmed that the club will not be moved, renamed or rebranded, but they do plan on developing a documentary series about the side.

The Welsh club have not been in the Football League for over 10 years now, but with new owners, along with some talented players in Kwame Thomas, Luke Young and Dior Angus, there is real hope that the Red Dragons could return to the 72.

  • Predicted Finish: 12th
  • Captain: Shaun Pearson
  • Last Trophy Victory: FA Trophy in 2013
  • Last Season Position: 19th

Inter Miami

After a disappointing inaugural season in the MLS, David Beckham’s MLS franchise is looking to have a far better season in 2021. Beckham founded the club after activating a clause in his contract for his 2007 move to LA Galaxy allowing him to open a franchise at a cut-cost of just $25 million (Charlotte paid over $100 million.).

The Miami-based side currently play in Fort Lauderdale, Florida whilst waiting for approval to build the new soccer-specific stadium. With no location yet finalized, the Miami board have stated they would like to build on the Miami waterfront.

The side finished 19th overall but still qualified for the MLS Cup Play-Offs after the league expanded play due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but The Herons went out at the first hurdle.

With top players like Gonzalo Higuaín, Blaise Matuidi and Rodolfo Pizarro, you are not short of talent, but combining this with your salary cap and keeping everyone happy could prove tricky.

But, you get to live in Miami…!

  • Predicted Finish: 19th
  • Captain: None currently
  • Last Trophy Victory: None
  • Final League Position Last Season: 19th (Overall) 10th (East)

Celtic

Celtic have dominated Scottish football for the last decade since Rangers’ financial troubles, as The Hoops even went a whole season undefeated under the management of Brendan Rodgers.

After being awarded the league title on PPG last season in the COVID-hit campaign, hopes were high that Celtic could win a historic ten-in-a-row title. Well, it’s pretty safe to say, this season hasn’t gone to plan for the Glasgow side, as the the club are quite far behind Rangers at this point of the season.

Pressure has been building on the manager, Neil Lennon, for some time. Can you lead The Hoops to the historic title?

  • Predicted Finish: 2nd
  • Captain: Scott Brown
  • Last Trophy Victory: Scottish Cup in 2020
  • Final League Position Last Season: 1st

Ipswich Town

A former European champion stuck in the third tier, the last few years of the Suffolk side has been less than exciting, after high hopes of a immediate return to the Championship, they could only finish 12th and it looks like Town are heading for a third season in League One.

Fan unrest with both the manager, Paul Lambert, and owner, Marcus Evans, has become greater than ever before, with protests making national news and radio stations.

With a limited budget, you’ll have to rely mainly on free transfer and the loan market, can you get Ipswich back into the second tier?

  • Predicted Finish: 4th
  • Captain: Luke Chambers
  • Last Trophy Victory: Championship Play Offs in 2000
  • Final League Position Last Season: 12th

Liverpool FC

Not many people thought we would see Liverpool on a team to manage guide this year… After a superb season last year, Liverpool have struggled to say the least this season. The injury list has stocked up including injuries to key players.

Whilst in the grand scheme of things, Liverpool aren’t doing too bad and can still qualify for the Champions League, it is safe to say there has been some-what of a drop off from the Champions.

The Anfield atmosphere has been non-existent due to COVID restrictions, many Liverpool fans say this is a major reason.

Can you lead Liverpool to the title again this season?

  • Predicted Finish: 2nd
  • Captain: Jordan Henderson
  • Last Trophy Victory: Premier League 19-20
  • Final League Position Last Season: 1st
