Welcome to another experiment here at Dictate the Game, a slightly different one from our normal ones as we sim the top 5 major European leagues for the 2018-19 season, and we will see whether there will be shocks, upsets or will it be another boring old season where the the favourites yet again?
The Premier League very rarely sees shock winners – the only one of late – or really ever – being Leicester City under the management of Claudio Raineri in the 2015-16 season. The chances of a shock win for any team other than the so called “Big 6” was very unlikely. It was a first Premier League title win for Liverpool, under the management of Jurgen Klopp, and their first top flight title since 1989. The biggest shock of the season may be Bournemouth clinching a spot in next season’s Europa League by finishing sixth. Last season’s winner, Manchester City finished in 5th place.
The chance of anything but either another title for giants Real Madrid or FC Barcelona would be considred almost zilt. The loss of Ronaldo could effect things though, but surely FCB are the favourites with its new MSC frontline? However, the title according to FM19 will be won by Atletico Madrid, so a bit of a shock, with Barcelona finishing down in fourth place.
The Bundesliga is a bit of a man one team these days – with Bayern Munich having won the title six seasons in a row – and by a clear margin most years. Could Football Manager spring up any surprises? Nope. A seventh title in a row for Bayern Munich. Will they ever be stopped in their domestic league? It’s hard to see at the moment.
Ligue 1 is met with a bit of skeptism around Europe due to the so called easy teams in it, classifed as a “one man team” due to PSG’s numerous titles since 2010, but Monaco did pip them to the post in the 2016-17, but with PSG boasting both Neymar and Mbappe, surely there is only one winner….yes PSG win the title yet again!
The profile of the top flight of Itlain football was given a major lift this summer as Cristiano Ronaldo moved to Juventus, but like the Bundesliga, Serie A is very much considered a one team league, Juve have won every title since 2011-12 season, which is rather remarkable. Can anyone take the perch from Juventus? Football Manager doesn’t think so, as it predicts another title for Juventus, and a first Serie A medal for CR7, and a very clear title win with 2nd placed Inter, 14 points behind.
So there we have it. Football Manager 2019 has predicted the winners for the major European leagues…do you agree with FM or disagree? Let us know on Twitter by tweeting us at @DictateTheGame
