One To Watch – Keita Baldé (Senegal)

Overview of Player

Name:  Keita Baldé
Position: Winger
Age: 23
Nationality: Senegalese (Spanish born)
Club: Monaco
World Cup Influence: 5/10

Keita Baldé is a winger known for his pace and his touch is impeccable. especially on the counter attack. Keita has a decent goals to game ratio  for Monaco scoring one every 2.87 games. Baldé’s Ability allows him to feature on either wings in the 10 or up top on his own which he has recently done for club and country. The Senegalese man does however sometimes struggle to find a team mate with only 5 assists this season, the young man has only completed 0.7 key passes a game in Ligue 1 this season and will need to improve to have any chance of seeing success at the upcoming World Cup.

Overview of Nation

Senegal Qualified for their first World Cup since 2002 by going unbeaten in qualifying, they had to pass through 2010 hosts South Africa, Burkina Faso and Cape Verde.                Senegal helped by Keita and his team mates helped move The Lions up to 27th in the World rankings from 40th and are currently the second best African side in the world.

Performance of Player in qualification

Keita Baldé’s first adventure into somewhat of an international stage was actually with Catalonia in 2015, since then the speed man has gone on to feature 17 times for Senegal netting three times. Keita previously of Lazio made a move to French side Monaco in the summer of 2017 in which the Winger had a successful first season in France netting an impressive 10 goals in all competitions, and is beginning to make a real name for himself having been linked to Liverpool in more recent times.

Keita didn’t feature in either of Senegal’s 2nd round games against Madagascar, Keita did however score in their first game of the third round against Cape Verde in a 2-0 win this was his only goal in qualification but the wide man featured in all but the last  two  third round games for Senegal in their run up to winning their place in Russia and featured in a friendly against Croatia recently but didn’t add to his tally of goals.

Why he’s one to watch

The speedster is one of a dangerous pairing on the wings for Senegal playing alongside Liverpool man Saido Mane, he’ll be hoping that the attention is stuck on his team mate allowing him to use his deadly pace and finishing to cause issues to the rest of Group H and beyond. Keita is part of the first Senegal squad to qualify to the world cup since 2002 and I’m sure he will want to make his country proud of their return to the big stage.             Senegal have a good line in midfield with Idrissa Gueye and Cheikhou Kouyaté sitting deep allowing the Monaco man the space and the time to make his moves and send the Lions to the knockout round and beyond.

Even on Football Manager Keita Baldé’s pace is electric, his pace, acceleration, technique and flair all being above 14 shows that he is highly rated as a dangerous winger on the game and alongside good finishing and composure the Winger could also score goals to help any team to their long term plans. His spirited personality is something to be impressed about the winger will always be up for the big games which will hopefully help him in real life coming into this years World Cup!
