Ruining English Football! – Part 2

For the few of you who missed the Part 1 to this I’d definitely recommend checking it out here however I’ll quickly recap what the experiment is about:

  • Every team in the Premier League and Championship is given a 50 year transfer embargo
  • I will view do progress updates at 10/25/50 years
  • I will look at the English Leagues, National team, European Competitions and then any other big news in the world.
  • I will make the save playable from every point I do an article for.

So now the current date is June 1st 2038, and if you thought the first 10 years were odd… well you’re in for a treat!

A quick reminder here are the results from the first season in the top 4 leagues:

1st Season

From left to right: Premier League, Championship, League 1, League 2

And 20 years later, I’ve had to include down to the Conference North/South as some teams really haven’t had a great two decades…

From left to right: Premier League, Championship, League 1, League 2, Conference Premier, Conference North, Conference South!

Oh and if you thought Blackburn and Wigan coming top 2 was a surprise… wait till you see the last 10 years of winners…

Premier League Winners.png

The last 10 years have been mostly Blackburn…

Not bad at all! And if anyone can guess who their manager is I’ll buy you a copy of Football Manger 2019 when it’s released!* Because ARTUR BORUC is their manager, yes the ex Southampton and current Bournemouth goalkeeper is one of the best managers in the Premier League of all time…

*Will not actually provide copy of FM19 if you guess this

So that’s the best English team, but what about the best English player? I’m of course talking about John English, a regen striker who started the game at Liverpool and was 26 at last check. Now he’s 36 and he’s had an incredible career!

John English ProfileJohn English history

After scoring over 200 league goals for Liverpool, he joined Barcelona for a cool £83m and had 6 impressive seasons for the Catalan giants, winning a few titles and was runner up in the Balloon D’or twice. He recently joined the English powerhouse Blackburn rovers and has been at the club for two seasons. I’m more impressed by his record breaking 154 international goals in 167 appearances! That’s a new England record for goals, but the record for appearances was broken by another regen named Richard Fuller with 192 caps!

Everything seems to be going back to Blackburn doesn’t it? They seem to be doing pretty well and if anyone wants to have a go at taking them off the top spot there will be a link to the save in its current state at the end of this article!

Lets move onto something other than Blackburn! How about Wigan? After 5 runners up medals in the League they’ve also managed to win the Europa League this year, beating A.C Milan 3-1 in the final! Liverpool also managed to grab a win in 2034 and Man City were runners up in 2036

Europa League

However its a very different story for the big dogs in the Champions League, no English team has been even close! Perhaps this could be a challenge for you to try? Either with Blackburn (Sorry I’ll stop mentioning them) or another team?

Champions League

Another major superstar who has really burst onto the scene is Welsh striker Keith Hart! Who at 26 is already worth £76m and is tearing through defenses at Wigan Athletic. Probably better than Gareth Bale in my opinion!

Do you think Keith Hart will succeed John English as the best regen in the UK?

For the last of the winners of the English leagues, here are the FA Cup and Carabao Cup winners of the last 10 years. Looks like an alternate reality!

FA CupCarabao Cup

I’m amazed a few teams have managed to still have success in the Cups despite their drop from the top tier of English football. However great news if you’re a fan of any of these teams!

Right now onto whether the Greg Dyke and the FA should actually consider giving top teams transfer embargoes; how are England doing?

And Greg if you’re reading this I’d seriously suggest enforcing this rule!

England Highlights

Bare in mind we won 2 world cups in the first 10 years, in the next we’ve won another World Cup, a European Championship, and a Confederations Cup! Lets have a look at who’s had the hardest job in the world?

England Managers

After Gareth Southgate left in 2024, Nicky Cowley took the role for nearly 4 years. Then Steve Bruce had a stint in charge but after 2 years he left and Steve Casey came in. Andy Scott is the current manager and we’ll see how he does at the next World Cup! We haven’t dropped below 4th in the rankings since I last wrote an article. Not bad if you’re patriotic!

Here is the Overall Best Eleven for England: A lot of these are Regens however Harry Kane and Trent Alexander-Arnold made the cut in the first team whilst Jordan Pickford, John Stones, Dele Alli, Marcus Rashford and Raheem Sterling made the bench.

England Overall Best XI

and just for fun here are the runs in the 2032 European Championship and the 2034 World Cup:

2032 Euro Champs

England beat Switzerland, Ireland, France and Italy in the knockout stages to lift the trophy.

2034 World Cup

England had arguably a harder run this time with France, Argentina, Portugal and Brazil but still managed to finish as World Champions!

So next time the date will be June 1st, 2048 and we’ll find out how everyone’s doing!

  • Will anyone come close to Blackburn in the Premier League?
  • Will any English teams challenge the European greats in the Champions League?
  • Will England continue to stun the world with their incredible record?
  • *Assuming John English ever retires* Will he go into management? Or take a back seat role for club or country?

All next time. Next Friday

Mate, how do you go about enabling a transfer embargo please? I’d like to set up a similar, but place an embargo on the top 2 divisions for every major European league (Eng, Spain, Germany, Italy, France)
